Educational Events

Industry connections
This annual event allows companies to recruit future employees and for students to gain engineering employment prospects. This year the event provided the ten engineering companies who participated an opportunity to meet with students in a relaxed environment. The event was a success and an enjoyable night was had by all.

Speaker Evenings
Speaker evenings provide our members with an opportunity to hear engineers speak about their personal experiences as a professional in their career. WIE aim to hold at least three Speaker Evenings each year.

In 2010, WIE hosted the following speakers:

Pro-Vice Chancellor of Engineering at the University of Canterbury, Professor Jan Evans-Freeman, an electrical engineer. She spoke about her achievements and challenges throughout her career and her love of motorcycling.

Stephen Drew the General Manager of Energy Response (NZ). He has over 30 years experience in industrial energy efficiency, specialising in PINCH technology. He spoke about his major industrial achievements and being a board member of the Institute of Professional Engineers.

Hannah Corbett a student in the third professional year of Chemical and Process Engineering and also the WIE President for 2010. She spoke of her experience at the 2010 International Institute of Women In Engineering conference in France.

Social Sports

WIE social sport is a good opportunity to vent some of that built-up stress (preferably) on the courts at the Recreation Centre on Campus. Whether you are into kicking or throwing a ball round, there is a sport to suit everyone. Since its social, people of all abilities are welcome to come and sweat it out with other sporty WIE members. And best of all, it’s free! So come on and give it a go!
