WIE is run by an all-female committee made up of current engineering students. The organsation itself includes both female and male student members, as well as professional engineers and honorary staff members. There are currently over 200 members in WIE!
Regardless of the unfortunate events Christchurch has faced this year, 2011 for Women in Engineering (WIE) has been a highly successful year. A number of exciting networking opportunities, social, sporting and professional development events were hosted this year.
WIE aims to:
Provide a social and educational network for engineering students, particularly female students who are under-represented in the majority of engineering disciplines.
Raise the profile and create opportunities for women in the engineering field.
Working with the College of Engineering to enhance the future enrolment of female engineering students.
Raise the profile of WIE within the College of Engineering, University of Canterbury and general community
To achieve these goals in 2011:
The current school presentation programme will be continued. WIE is now working with the University of Canterbury to reach more schools.
Plans have been put in place to provide a mentoring programme in conjunction with the University of Canterbury for all engineering students.
The main educational and social events WIE has always provided will be continued, these can be found on the following pages.
